It’s no surprise that working in the food and beverage industry can be a very visually-stimulating experience. It’s one thing to taste your food, but in the ever-changing business world, it’s also important to have a visual representation of what your business looks like. This is where social media platforms such as Instagram come into play.

You’re probably aware that Instagram allows businesses to set up their own business accounts to help promote and advertise their businesses to the site’s more than one billion active monthly users. But some fear that making the switch from a personal account to a business one can hurt a business’ visibility.

This myth began when Instagram’s parent company, Facebook began allowing businesses to create their own business pages. As more and more business owners began making the switch, they saw their organic reach depleting on their business pages when compared to their previous accounts.

While this was of a concern during the switch, today we strongly recommend that businesses use a business profile. Using an Instagram business profile will not decrease your visibility. In fact, there are several benefits to using a business profile that will help you gain better insight, grow your followers, and drive more traffic to your website.

Create Strong Content

It might seem a bit obvious to some, but the greatest way to ensure your business profile is seen is to create content that others will find valuable. Instagram says it best, “The best way to grow and strengthen your audience is to create high quality, on-brand content that people want to see in their Instagram feed.”

For F&B pros, this can be achieved by simply taking photos of some of your favorite dishes or even taking snapshots from popular events you’ve done. If your posts catch your followers’ eyes, they are more likely to be found on Instagram’s Search and Explore tab, meaning non-followers will be able to see your mouth-watering photos and want to learn more.

No More Playing The “Private” Card

Unlike personal Instagram accounts, there is no option for going private for business profiles. This means that everyone can see your posts, comments, and stories. You also no longer have the option to pick and choose which follower requests you accept or deny.

While this might be a turn-off for some smaller businesses, it opens you and your business up to more visibility. This can mean more engagement and interest, as well as the potential for bigger and better sales.

Contact is Just A Click Away

Another perk of the business profile is that you can have your contact information just a click away. Business profiles allow you as a business owner to clearly display methods for potential clients to get in touch with you. With one click, you clients could send you an email, call you, get your address, or visit your website. These contact buttons and links help open up the lines of communication for your business and reduce the amount of friction a potential client may experience in trying to contact you. Less friction = higher conversion potential.

Advertising on Instagram

Advertising on Instagram is another viable way to increase your visibility without having to cost you an arm and a leg. Instagram ads is a beneficial tool that allows you to promote your posts that are already on your page or build an ad from scratch that you want everyone to see in their feeds. These ads also allow for call-to-action buttons that can quickly allow users to access your website right from their feeds.
